This course is for students wishing to pursue a career in the Media Make-up industry. A broad range of areas are taught and the course allows for you to specialise within the later modules in a technique/techniques to enhance and stretch your skill set if you should choose to.
Over the first year you will study a broad range of skill sets with a variety of modules. These are developed and diversified within the second year of the course allowing for individual specialisms to be developed. In the final year there are no set pathways within the degree which allows for flexibility where necessary to develop independence within specialisms.

The qualification has been designed in collaboration with industry ensuring that you will develop the necessary skills and knowledge for employment.
You will have access to excellent resources and facilities with state-of-the-art make-up studios and workshops.
Residential trips may be available: previous trips have taken place to Warner Bros, Harry Potter studios, London West End theatre productions and backstage tours such as Les Miserables, Aladdin, Wicked and more.
In addition to our End of Year Degree Show, students fundraise to showcase their work to industry at events such as IMATS.

This qualification covers a wide range of skills and knowledge to provide you with the specialist practical make-up skills which will prepare you to work independently in the media make-up industry. It builds on skills acquired during your Level 2 Make-up Artistry studies or equivalent.
On this course you will:
You will be assessed by an externally set and marked exam and by a final practical synoptic assignment. You will produce a portfolio of creative work.
Choose this course if… you are progressing within the make-up industry and want to cover all of the advanced skills and knowledge needed to work as an employed or freelance make-up artist.
Progression and careers: Achievement of this qualification demonstrates to an employer that you have the necessary advanced technical skills to be employed as a media make-up artist and could lead to a career as a freelance film or TV make-up artist, make-up designer or product developer. Alternatively, you could progress onto the L3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Media Make-up Artistry or into higher education and a degree course within this subject area.

This Level 2 Technical Certificate in Make-up Artistry aims to provide you with a range of essential technical practical skills and knowledge.This practical based training is ideal preparation for gaining employment or further specialist training within the make-up industry.
Your programme will cover all of the work specific core skills and knowledge you will need to carry out services such as applying make-up and creative make-up / hair artistry. You will explore and research the historical and global influences on make-up and produce a portfolio to showcase your different technical skills and final looks.
Practical skills in make-up and hair artistry will be developed on fellow students; once a level of competence is reached, you will then be able to work on clients in our well-equipped make-up room and hairdressing salons. Whilst studying you will have the opportunity to engage in enrichment activities and workshops. These may include development of employability skills, employer involvement activities, team work and promotional events, communications and customer service; all of which are important when you are thinking about working in the make-up industry.
To gain this qualification, candidates must successfully achieve the following assessments:
One externally set, internally marked and externally moderated assignment (Practical based). In this synoptic assignment you will design and create a themed look using all of the skills, techniques, concepts and theories from across the programme area.
One externally set, externally marked exam, sat under examination conditions (Theoretical based). This exam is designed to assess the depth and breadth of knowledge across the qualification, using a range of question types.
